10:00 am - 12:30 pm Whether triggered by opportunity or friction, families and family businesses may seek external facilitation to maintain or improve the health of communication and outcomes. In Traditional Governance, that facilitation often starts with the development of “tools for rules” that inadvertently cause the anticipation of conflict down the road. Alternatively, when families explore their Roles, Rituals, Regrets, Shifts, Risks, and Rewards they can cultivate a tradition of Pre-Governance. Going forward they are armed with the tools to create alignment, and build resilience and skillsets, for navigating change and opportunity. Through interactive conversation about The Invisible Guest in every relationship, Joe and Shelley will share tools to hone your counseling skills and facilitate families to see conflict and planning differently. Together we’ll practice how to partner with your clients to help them establish a greater sense of unity and foundation for a path that’s unexpected, broader, and more rewarding than previously perceived possible. 12:30 - 1:30 pm 1:30 - 3:00 pm 3:00 - 3:30 pm 3:30 - 5:00 pm 5:15 - 7:15 pm |

11:00 am - 12:00 pm Jeremy will introduce the use of rebalancing a portfolio after death, and modifying asset allocation models to account for changes in the family Dynamic. Both will discuss using the double step-up for community property to help solve built-in gains issues, while at the same time, protecting heirs from the surviving spouse changing the plan after the death of the first spouse. Peter will discuss using a life insurance death benefit for the trust of a minor or estranged child, and conversion of VUL to LTC (or purchase of VUL with an LTC rider). Examples will include disparate interests of children, such as a child with expertise and interest in real estate or a family business. Jeremy will discuss the use of a "costless collar" when the family inherits a concentrated position in need of diversification over time, and more. 12:00 - 1:00 pm 1:00 - 2:00 pm 2:00 - 3:00 pm 3:00 - 3:30 pm 3:30 - 4:30 pm |
