Peter S. Myers, a partner in Fox Rothschild’s San Francisco office, is certified as a Specialist in Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law by the State Bar of California's Board of Legal Specialization. He frequently writes and teaches in the areas of estate planning and family business entities, and has authored and published treatises, books and articles, regularly speaking throughout the country on topics of interest to wealthy families and their advisers, as well as at conventions of professionals. From 1987 to 1992, Peter practiced antitrust and securities law with a national firm before starting his own firm, Myers Urbatsch, P.C. (later Myers Kenney, P.C.).

Peter is the executive editor of Business Succession Planning: Strategies for California Estate Planners and Business Attorneys, published by Continuing Education of the Bar-California. He regularly teaches for the National Network of Estate Planning Attorneys, California Continuing Education of the Bar (CEB), the Southern California Institute and various local and national professional groups.

 
 

Shelley Lightfoot is a financial and legal services professional who helps wealth advisers attract and engage clients through collaborative efforts with other advisers. Since early 2009, Shelley has enjoyed her role as the executive director and partner in four unique brands: The Southern California Institute, The Laureate Center for Wealth Advisors, Strazzeri Mancini LLP and The Founders Group.

Shelley moved to the San Diego area in 2007 while employed with Banc of America, Inc. During her five-year tenure with BofA, Shelley was second in command of 80 branch locations with 112 employees. In addition, Shelley has also successfully provided independent compliance and management consulting for financial advisers and broker dealers.With over 25 years of experience, Shelley often educates advisers and business owners from all disciplines throughSCI programs and speaking engagements at affiliated organizations. 

 
 

Joseph Strazzeri is a counselor and attorney for successful families and business owners. He also serves as an educator for wealth advisers and as a speaker and author. Joe pairs his skills gleaned as a former general contractor, land developer and business owner with his two-decade career as an attorney, and he and his partners offer four unique brands to help clients find “what’s next” for their families and their assets. His four brands are (1) The Southern California Institute, which provides resources, education and advice via collaborative think tanks, events, programs, online content and introductions; (2) The Laureate Center for Wealth Advisors, which provides advanced training and support for wealth advisers – attorneys, accountants, fiduciaries, bankers, financial advisers, insurance professionals and others; (3) Strazzeri Mancini LLP, which helps affluent families resolve challenges related to integrated tax and estate planning, business succession and family governance counseling; and (4) The Founders Group, which leads business owners through all phases of transition, allowing for increased clarity, net cash flow and market value that expands and solidifies choices for business transition: if, when, how, how much and to whom.

 

Speakers

 

Eric A. Bevan is a litigation partner at Fox Rothschild who practices in California and Florida. He is a member of the firm’s Fiduciary Litigation group and has extensive experience representing both fiduciaries and beneficiaries in disputes over breaches of fiduciary duty, self-dealing claims, disputed asset transfers, and will and trust contests. Eric has experience litigating marital dissolution actions as well as a broad background in complex civil litigation. Eric is a graduate of UCLA School of Law and earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Prior to law school, Eric served eight years in the U.S. Marine Corps, first as an enlisted Marine and later as an officer. He is admitted to practice in both California and Florida as well as every federal district in both states.

 
 

Stephen Dale is a disability rights advocate and spends much of his time attending disability rights activities, including legislative hearings, and serving on boards and committees of disability-rights organizations. He is a frequent speaker on a variety of disability-related topics across the country. Stephen regularly teaches courses to the public, financial professionals and other attorneys on special needs trusts and trust administration with an emphasis on achieving independence while maintaining essential government benefits. He also offers trustee classes to his clients and professional trustees on how to administer special needs trusts.

Stephen regularly teaches continuing education courses accredited by the California Department of Insurance and the California State Bar on estate planning, special needs trusts, pooled trusts and tax planning and is the author of WealthCounsel/ElderCounsel Special Needs Trust. He is the Trustee of the Golden State Pooled Trust, which serves beneficiaries in California, and serves on the boards of the Arc of California and the Contra Costa County Developmental Disabilities Counsel. He is a long-standing member of the Special Needs Alliance. Stephen received his J.D. from Armstrong Law School and his LL.M. in Taxation from Golden Gate University. His law firm provides quality estate planning to clients by working cooperatively with the clients’ tax, financial and insurance professionals. 

 
 

Alicia M. Gámez is the principal at Gámez Law. Alicia represents both fiduciaries and beneficiaries in trusts and estates litigation, including will and trust contests, petitions for accounting, breach of fiduciary duty, trust construction, and to instruct the trustee. Alicia successfully advocates for legislative change in furtherance of justice in California. Alicia's efforts resulted in the passage of AB2664 (2018), which removed obstacles to a party's right to have a court reporter transcribe judicial proceedings, and AB 991, which updated Probate Code section 1304 regarding appeals. Alicia is a certified specialist Taxation Law and in Estate Planning, Trust & Probate Law and has an LL.M. in Estate Planning and an LL.M. in Taxation Law. She earned her B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin and her J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall).

 
 

Jason Giorgio acts as a key adviser to Pacific Advisor’s high-net-worth clients in the areas of advanced estate planning, business planning and tax-efficient asset management with a strong focus on protection from risk. He is a qualified specialist in the field of Charitable, Estate and Business Planning and is nationally recognized for his achievements in the financial services industry. Jason has built his practice on helping his clients achieve their goals of accumulation, distribution and conservation of wealth throughout their lifetimes by focusing on providing greater protection, flexibility and control over their assets. Jeremy L. Lau serves as the CEO of Prudent Investors. He frequently speaks on investment management and financial planning to professional fiduciaries and trust and estate attorneys around the country and teaches at California State University Fullerton’s Trustee Certification Program. Jeremy regularly advises fiduciaries on managing their clients’ assets and financial needs and works with estate litigators as a financial expert witness. He co-authored the white paper on “Decoding the Uniform Prudent Investor Act” and regularly publishes articles on financial matters related to the fiduciary profession.

Before joining Prudent Investors, he worked in senior roles in the investment banking industry in Tokyo and Hong Kong. He graduated in Accounting from Brigham Young University and has earned the right to use the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) and Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) designations.

 
 

Mo Mahoney is a Business Transition Specialist at Pacific Advisors and integrator for other professionals involved in the world of his clients. Mo and his team design balanced portfolios that focus on wealth accumulation, distribution and conservation of assets. He employs a strategic evaluation process before making recommendations, with a particular emphasis on helping clients re-engineer their estates and businesses to powerfully develop their ambitions of building a legacy while fully using and enjoying their assets.

Mo has over 30 years of experience in the Marine Corps, primarily as an F/A-18 fighter pilot to include multiple combat and U.S. Navy carrier-based deployments. After getting his MBA, he transitioned to the reserves and has over 12 years of finance experience focused in business transition, structural liquidity and protecting client assets to maximize growth and pass on as legacy.

 
 

Ann Rosevear serves as President and Chief Trust Officer (CTO) for Dunham Trust Company (DTC), providing expert structuring and administration of trusts to DTC’s most complex clients. As President, Ann contributes comprehensive knowledge in trust and estate administration, asset protection and Nevada business planning, as well as overseeing the firm’s adherence to fiduciary, regulatory and compliance requirements. As CTO, Ann provides highly attentive trustee services, paying particular attention to risk management issues, discretionary actions, ongoing tax planning, communication with co-trustees, beneficiary needs and professional adviser performance and dedication. She has a demonstrated understanding of trust and wealth management, maintaining a well-rounded ability to work in partnership with attorneys, financial advisers and accountants in order to best serve DTC’s trust clients.

Ann is a graduate of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Honors College, and Gonzaga University School of Law, Dean’s List, cum laude distinction. She is a member in good standing before the State Bar of Nevada and licensed to practice law in Nevada.

 
 

Holly Ryan’s depth and breadth of knowledge in the areas of addiction and behavioral health has been achieved by spending countless hours in conversation with families and their loved ones. She has developed an expertise in addressing the complex needs and challenges of mental health and substance abuse disorders through her work in some of the country’s most preeminent treatment centers and clinical settings. Holly helps her clients build a strong foundation of autonomy through various therapeutic approaches including motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy and a family systems approach.

Holly is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor. She received her master’s degree from Barry University and has practiced as a clinical social worker for over 15 years. She founded Bardo Consulting with Kacy Silverstein to create a space where families and professionals can turn for guidance and support and know that they will be met with warmth, honesty and compassion.

 
 

Haley A. Schwartz is a tax and wealth planning partner in the Atlanta office of Fox Rothschild. She centers her practice on creating values-based estate plans for moderate to high-net-worth individuals. Haley advises clients in all aspects of estate and trust administration, probate, wealth transfer strategies, charitable giving and business succession. She is a member of the Fiduciary Law Section of the State Bar of Georgia and the Estate Planning and Probate Section of the Atlanta Bar Association. She is a past co-chair of the Balser Symposium for Professional Advisors. Haley serves on the Board of Directors of the Anti-Defamation League Southeast Region. She is a member of the Atlanta Legal Aid Society Advisory Board and the Emory Law School Public Interest Committee Advisory Board. Haley is a graduate of Indiana University and Emory University School of Law.

 
 

Kacy Silverstein brings over 15 years of experience in clinical practice, administration, crisis response, leadership and program development to her work with clients and families. Kacy is a Licensed Professional Counselor – Mental Health Service Provider, National Certified Counselor and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and specializes in supporting clients through a variety of concerns and difficulties including childhood and adult trauma, relationship issues, parenting and co-parenting struggles, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, addiction and life transitions. Her work is grounded in an integrated wellness approach, and she is particularly skilled at supporting clients in bearing witness to their own experiences and moving into a space of healing and growth.

Kacy founded Bardo Consulting with Holly Ryan because she saw the need for families to have space where their challenges and struggles could be met with kindness and compassion. Kacy received both a B.A. in Anthropology and a M.Ed. in Human Development Counseling from Vanderbilt University. In addition, she has completed advanced training in body-centered psychotherapy, The Safe & Sound Protocol, mindfulness-based practices and the treatment of trauma.
